Gear Box
New Outdoor Equipment
June 28, 2005
For the past few Gear Boxes, we’ve been fortunate to have quest writers take the time to let us know what products they think are cool, unique of different. The trend has proved popular with readers and staff (there’s only so much of Dan they can handle), and we’d like to continue the trend. If you’d like to grace the pages of Thrive all you have to do is drop an e-mail to dkouba@idahostatesman.com and say, “I’d like to do the Gear thing.” We’ll put all the names in a box, shake it around and pick a guest reviewer.

Coleman 5 LED Headlamp
This is a flashlight that has adjustable straps to fit comfortably on your head or hat. It has four light settings, and pivots up and down. The batteries were already included, which is always a plus
No more fumbling for the flashlight when you need to find the outhouse or navigate in the dark. This headlamp is also great for early morning strolls or fishing.

Tree Huggerz Camping Organizer
Tree Huggerz is a sturdy, portable, canvas device with hooks, slots and pockets that straps around almost any tree.
Tree Huggerz is a must for me. I find that one of the keys to a pleasant camping experience is being well prepared and organized. Tree Huggerz held our towels, jackets, sunscreen, utensils, pans, fishing gear, hand soap, keys, glasses and much more. It keeps all your stuff safe and sound, off the ground, clean and easy to find. We found that we needed more than one.
Comes in green and camouflage patterns.
Avaialbe at Albertsons, D&B Supply, and Sportsman’s Wharehouse, $19.99
Campfire Cookers
This kit comes with four plastic-handled, metal sticks that attach to either four two-pronged marshmallow cookers or two grilled cheese sandwich cookers.
These were a hit for the entire family when it cam to snack time around the campfire. These are easy and fun to use. A couple of slices of bread and a couple slices of cheese are easily made into a great grilled cheese sandwich with the campfire cookers. Also makes great toast.
